For someone retiring at 65 in 2026, average health care spending is estimated at $185,500\u2014proof that medical expenses often extend far beyond what Medicare handles. In fact, research shows more than half of pre-retirees expect Medicare to pay for everything, even as premiums rise faster than retirement benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I want you to know: Original Medicare leaves out important needs like routine dental, vision exams for glasses, hearing aids, and long-term custodial care. These gaps can catch you off guard if you\u2019re not prepared. Even the services that are covered come with a price tag\u2014Part B will run about $203 a month in 2026, plus a deductible, around 20% coinsurance, and extra surcharges if your income is above certain levels.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I encourage everyone to review Medicare\u2019s limits early, look closely at Medigap options during your one-time enrollment window, and\u2014if possible\u2014use health savings accounts to build up reserves before you\u2019re eligible. My approach is always to help you see the whole picture and feel confident about your choices.
